Kona Blend Coffee or 100% Kona Coffee?

Does your coffee claim that it’s a Kona blend? What does that really mean? Don’t let retailers mislead you. When you buy Kona blend coffee, it is NOT a blend of delicious Kona coffees. It’s a blend of Kona and Columbian or Brazilian coffee. These blends normally contain less than 10% Kona beans!  Because Kona coffee is regarded as the best coffee in the world, many blenders use the name Kona in their coffee. Don’t compromise taste with a Kona blend coffee, choose genuine 100% Kona coffee.

Kona Blend Coffee Requirements

Hawaii has enacted several laws that now require the retailer to state the percentages of Kona coffee clearly on the label. The Hawaii Coffee Association supports mandatory certification that requires all green coffee beans must be certified by the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture when they are transferred from their place of origin. To carry the name Kona, coffee must meet minimum quality standards to receive the state certification seal. Through this process, the Hawaii Coffee Association maintains the highest standards for Hawaiian grown Kona coffee.

100% Kona Coffee

100% Kona coffee is grown in only one place in the entire world on the slopes of Hulalai and Mauna Loa in the North and South Kona Districts on the big island of Hawaii. Sunny mornings, overcast or rainy afternoons, and mild nights combined with porous, mineral rich soil creates the best growing conditions for coffee beans. Because of its unique location, the coffee grown here is one of the best in the world. If you’re looking for 100% Kona coffee than check the label for authenticity. Kona blend coffee does not come close to the distinctive flavor of 100% Kona coffee.
